Sweat Proof Summer Makeup ft. Maybelline Colour Tattoos

I felt like I’ve been in a makeup rut lately in terms of using way too many products for even the simplest looks. Sometimes in the summer however there are days where I just want to slap some colour on and be out the door and have that makeup last all day! For this purpose, I’ve rekindled my love in the Maybelline Colour Tattoos. I used to be ga-ga over them, wanting every single collection that came out and therefore I’ve amassed a collection of 7 (now 6 because I threw out Fierce & Tangy because it was a terribly dry consistency).

I have for you 3 simple looks that feature the Colour Tattoos and Makeup Geek’s Shimma Shimma. They’re so easy-peasy, the eyes only required 1 brush (Real Techniques Base Shadow Brush)! Have a look:

*Prior to any makeup application, I moisturize, then spritz my face with Urban Decay’s All-Nighter Spray. If I’m going out in the sun I’ll apply some L’Oreal sunscreen (no sun damage, people!).

Minimal Makeup ft. the ‘strobing‘ technique

Products

  • Mac Face & Body C5
  • LA Girl Pro Conceal Medium Beige
  • Essence Clear Brow Gel (brushed upwards) + Life’s Entropy Brow Theory Pomade (fill in/thicken the brows)
  • Essence Mascara
  • Milani blush Romantic Rose
  • Makeup Geek Shimma Shimma (as a highlight above the brows, in the tear duct, along the bridge/tip of the nose, above the lip, along the cheekbones and a bit on the chin)
  • Milani Eyeshadow Primer
  • Maybelline Colour Tattoo: Bad to the Bronze (in the crease), Shimmering Sea (on the lid)
  • Annabelle Cosmetics Spice lip liner + Revlon Fig Jam lip butter (discontinued)

This look came about because I was tired of the high-octane, bright, face-painting looks that I’ve been doing over the last two weeks by participating in a challenge on Instagram held by @wallflower_artistry. I was looking for a no makeup kinda day, but then I saw two videos uploaded simultaneously by Siobhan from LetzMakeup and Nikki from NikkiTutorials regarding this ‘new’ trend of strobing. Basically it is extreme highlighting in the absence of any contouring to bring out the natural planes of the face. Truly it’s not new at all the makeup industry works in waves, things go in and out of fashion (in order to sell products) and this is just a new word for an old technique. I loved the end result even though it was a lot more glowy than I’m used to. Guess this trend worked out for me after all!

Soft Pop of Colour

Products

  • Mac Face & Body C5
  • LA Girl Pro Conceal Medium Beige
  • Essence Mascara
  • Essence Clear Brow Gel (brushed upwards)
  • Makeup Geek Shimma Shimma (as a highlight, same as the above look)
  • Milani blush Romantic Rose
  • Milani Eyeshadow Primer
  • Maybelline Colour Tattoo: Bad to the Bronze (in the crease), Shimmering Sea (on the lid), Tenacious Teal (in the outer v)
  • Rimmel ScandalEyes Nude eyeliner (waterline)
  • Bite Beauty Violet Luminous Creme Lipstick

Once again, twas a hot summer day (somewhat of a rarity in Canada) and I didn’t want to wear much makeup but I wanted to have my makeup ‘pop’ to match the vibrant Aztec print in my dress. This was the compromise, a soft wash of colour over the eyes and a vibrant, super duper long-lasting, yet moisturizing lip.

  • Maybelline Colour Tattoo: Bad to the Bronze (in the crease and half the lid), Barely Branded (inner half of the lid + tear duct)
  • Stila Smudge Crayon Waterproof Eye Color Umber (outer v on the upper and lower lashline + waterlines)
  • Annabelle Spice lip liner + Revlon Fig Jam lip butter (discontinued)

This is probably my favourite of the three because I love how soft and romantic the eye look turned out – its a very blown out, smoked out eye. It went perfectly with my bohemian outfit that featured super wide legged pajama pants from Delhi – both comfortable and stylish. However, I digress. This look was extremely long lasting as even my blush was a cream product so I’d say this is my go-to, no thought involved, hot weather makeup. Hope this post has helped you out and at the very least given you a couple recommendations of products or ideas on makeup!

*I’ll add photos of the products by the end of this weekend but I just wanted to get this post out there cause it’s been a bit longer than I intended since my last one! I’ll get off my ass this weekend and get some more writing/picture taking done. In the meantime, you can check out what I’ve been up to on my Instagram account @subitamaria. To all my American readers – Happy Independence Day and to the rest, Happy 4th of July! I truly enjoyed my Canada Day (1st July), fireworks and all, so I hope you have a glorious Saturday. Enjoy!*
